Many successful athletes will tell you that it’s hard to become successful without first deciding what you want. It turns out that understanding what your idea of success is is really important to actually becoming a better athlete. Today we’re going to think about success in 3 tiers.
Long-term
What is a successful lifetime to you? Lots of money, a big house, respect, a legacy, a building with your name on it, freedom, being a professional athlete, a happy family, a business, a new medicine, there are endless options. What comes to mind for you? It’s ok if you aren’t sure—but it’s fun to think about what you could do.

Mid-term
Over the next year or two, what is success for you? Winning state, getting a college athletic scholarship, making varsity, graduating high school…
Short-term
What is success to you today, this week, or this semester? Is it getting more fit, giving 100% in every practice, setting a new personal record, beating that one annoying competitor, winning your conference, making varsity…
The crazy thing is that it doesn’t matter what you pick and if it’s long, short, or mid-term—regardless the same tools will help you reach that goal! What you are going to learn in Advancing Daily will help you achieve success in many areas.
Sadly, one of the main reasons people fail to achieve success is that they have the wrong mindset. If I were to ask you where you want to be in 5 years would you answer, “I want to be a _________.” Or “I will be a _______.” It seems like a small difference but the difference is whether you “make it happen” or “let it happen.” If you “let it happen”, you’re just existing, hoping, and whatever happens, happens. But when you “make it happen”, you take steps, you have the mindset, and you do everything you can to improve your odds. It’s obviously no surprise that the people with the “make it happen” mindset succeed more often.
What do you want? Share area of success for you on social media with “I WILL ________. #makeithappen” It can be anything you want like running a certain time, winning a match, lifting a heavy weight, getting an A, reading a book, getting an athletic scholarship…
